Drive Belts are a loop of flexible material used to link two or more rotating shafts mechanically, most often parallel.
When installing new drive belts there are few precautionary measures to take. The belt drives primarily operate on the friction principle (Principle of wedging). i.e. the friction between the belt and the pulley is responsible for transmitting power from one pulley to the other. In other words, the driving pulley will give a motion to the belt and the motion of the belt will be transmitted to the driven pulley.
Belt Don’ts
Don’t mix belt makes or brands
Don’t mix belt constructions
Don’t mix old and new belts to make a set
Don’t force the old belts off and force the new ones on, adjust the pulleys to allow the belts to easily be removed and then installed, then use a tensioning tool once complete to ensure the correct tension is on each belt
